[HASH]GamerGate is a product of an army of mainly manchildren who are angry that journalists are asking developers to make games reflect that manchildren aren't the main demographic of gamers anymore!

A good way to keep up with it all is following Anita, Zoe, and Devin on Twitter.
Zoe Quinn's twitter feed is simultaneously hilarious and terrifying. Hilarious because of how stupid these people harassing her are, but terrifying because, well, you know why.
Devin's feed too. I love how they're always trying to get him fired, while he makes jokes at them which fly right over their heads.

Also great is that Zoe has been posting stuff about her and her boyfriend for a long time in public, but their brains can't comprehend what the word boyfriend means. So they've made even that into some conspiracy to do I dunno what.

Haha, I just went to look at the comments on the article (almost 5,000 already), and the most recent one recommends going to Badass and reading Devin's article on GamerGate (not the latest one, but the one before).
And of course, someone replied with "Just so you're aware, Devin Faraci has stated, and I quote here, 'I have more respect for ISIS than I do for gamers.'"
There's some good people commenting on there, but also a ton of entitled enemas responding with the typical "you really shouldn't insult your audience with articles like this".

The self-policing that they claim to do has been failing big-time, too. Someone on IRC said something really disgusting about a troll who previously had tweeted that their father had died (basically that the troll's dead dad had been a child molester), and when I told them to police their own they called me a moron and some other things. When I pointed out that they're meant to be policing harassment like that instead of perpetuating it, especially when someone tries to call it out, they told me basically that I brought it on myself for "provoking" them. Thing is, I don't give a crap what they say about me - for once I got off my high horse and tried to give them non-partisan advice about how to be taken more seriously by the mainstream media and the games industry, and they basically told me "no". So, given that it just makes them look worse in the end, I'm going to let them sleep in the bed they made. No point trying to organise a train wreck.  |

You're very brave and/or insane for trying to talk sensible with them.  Is there any way to get them into a classroom and paying attention, so they can be taught about how simple concepts such as "censorship" and "ethics" work? It becomes increasingly obvious every day that they don't know how the real world works. With every smoking gun "reveal" they make of two people being friends or in a relationship, it shows that they understand neither having a friend or being in a relationship. Yeah, it's been kind of hilariously depressing how little of what they say actually translates into the real world.
Full disclosure: I'm a member of the IGDA and participate in several special interest group mailing lists, where GASP! we discuss the state of the industry and trade insider secrets! Pff.
And yeah, Sommers has been the biggest eye-roller yet. That video I shared on Twitter today is such a good, easy-to-understand runthrough of the problematic nature of her discourse and how she completely avoided answering her own question in her video. When people see that and are none the wiser, then you know there's no hope of Gamer Gate going anywhere:

And Goobledy Goop people wonder why no one takes their campaign for journalistic integrity seriously. It was bad enough that they used charity, women and minorities as shields, but what with Nero joining their fight and MRA lobbyists and charmers like C H Sommers getting on board, the movement as a whole just looks less and less credible.
Why won't they just fizzle away into obscurity before they embarrass themselves further?

In a way I have to thank gamergate, before this whole situation I was pretty much uninterrested in the whole feminism and social justice deal in games. I watched thunderf00t rebuttal videos of anita sarkessian and I was quick to go to the whole "well more gamers are dudes so of course there are more male protagonists" thing. I still consider myself as kind of a centrist (I think total biscuits reaction to this whole deal is the one most in line with mine), but after watching shit like the internet aristocrats and mundane matts videos and the whole paranoia (and I mean fucking paranoia, like alex jones levels of paranoid) bs about "anita sarkessian and her sjw minions want to destroy our games" I know that whatever side I stand on, it is not theyrs.
So thank you gamergate for making me your enemy.

Yeah it's really the last part that's key there.
Also in the news, Adam Baldwin sic his followers after Mike Sacco for saying he fired people that he doesn't even work with. Adam later deleted the tweet and apologize, but somehow thinks Sacco should be grateful?
God I can't wait for this to all just go away, I know it won't, but I still can't wait.
